Watch any Jane Austen movie and one will see a plethora of straw hats, most minimally decorated or not decorated at all beyond the securing chin ties. We are familiar with the common shapes but based on the period fashion plates, straw hats came in a vast array of shapes. Visit my Pinterest for numerous boards containing fashion plates and extant examples from the period to see what I mean: www.pinterest.com/sharonlathan62
This is a vintage straw hat redesigned with Regency styling in mind. I lined the inner crown with a soft lavender fabric and edged with a pastel plaid ribbon and a deep purple ribbon. The edge of the brim is trimmed with lavender lace and the deep purple ribbon.
Atop the crown are four clusters of pretty purple flowers accented with the matching ribbons. Finally, the chin ties are sewn from the soft lavender fabric and positioned to pull the brim tight to the face creating a “poke” type bonnet.
Measurement from front brim to back brim is 12” and the crown opening is very flexible so will fit any size head.
