Fine Regency ladies required wide-brimmed hats to protect their delicate skin from the harsh sun. Styles like this example were perfect to shield when walking outside during the day.
I created this bonnet from a super-wide straw hat, cutting the back to fashion a deep poke bonnet when tied. The firm straw crown is covered with golden-yellow satin gathered at the base. The brim edge and crown base are trimmed with a narrow gold ribbon and eyelet. Yellow flowers and other foliage adorn each side.
The interior brim is lined with gold tulle. The crown interior is lined with the same yellow satin and edged with eyelet.
Brim depth 5” and the crown measures 23” circumference. Brim front edge to center back measures 18”.
